Firth was born in Grayshott, Hampshire, England, son of Shirley Jean and David Norman Lewis Firth. Firth has a sibling named Kate and Jonathan, which today they also work just as Firth.

The name "Firth" is taken from the Old English word collenferhð means "pride". Firth lives in St. Louis, Missouri, USA when he was 11 years old. Subsequently he was the school in Montgomery of Alamein Secondary School, a comprehensive school in Winchester, Hampshire. Then he went to Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh, Hampshire. While acting lessons he could at Drama Centre in North London.

Movie career

In 1983, Firth starred in his first film titled Another Country. Then in 1987 he appeared with Kenneth Branagh in the film is lifted from a novel by J. L. Carr called A Month in the Century. In 1989 he became a leading role in the film Valmont.

Firth entered as a supporting role in The Home Patient (1996), and since then he has starred in several movies, including Fever Pitch (1997), Shakespeare in Love (1998), Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), The Importance of Being Earnest (2002 ), Love Actually (2003), What a Girl Wants (2003) and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). In addition to the big screen, Firth also starred in several TV series such as Quixote (1999) and Conspiracy (2001). In 2007, Firth, playing along with Aishwarya Rai in The Last Region.
Firth is a permanent member of the jury in Amateur Filmaka Short Film Contest.

Colin Firth turns out to have other hobbies in the middle of filming the movie, which is writing a novel. Firth's first novel written works are The Department of Nothing "is featured in Speaking with the Angel (2000). Posts Firth's work was later edited by Nick Hornby and published by the publishing company TreeHouse Trust. Proceeds from sales of novels this Firth donated to help children with autism. Hornby Firth met when he played in the movie Fever Pitch.
